Late Night With Andre Iguodala
Different players spend off-days in a variety of ways, whether it’s getting some rest or unwinding at home.
For Andre Iguodala, his off-day included spending time at the famed NBC Studios in New York City to participate in a skit for "The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon."
The skit, which aired Monday night, was designed to simplify the explanation of President Barack Obama's recent rejection of the US automakers bail-out proposal in layman's terms. Namely using a basketball analogy.
So, after the show received a tip from their house band, Philadelphia-based The Roots, the call came to the Sixers to see if the team's leading scorer would be interested in participating.
And he was.
The first part of the day was a 3:30 call arrival at the world-renowned studios at 49th Street in NYC. Iguodala changed into his home uniform and walked on set to participate in the walk-through. Host Jimmy Fallon was on set and for a segment that may last all of about 60 seconds, the rehearsal took about 20 minutes.
While the first run through had everybody in the studio laughing, the second take included Iguodala nearly take out one of the stage lights with the block.
Everything from how he should block the shot, to Iguodala's entrance on set, to where he should stand was carefully scripted. The Roots music even went along with theme of the skit.
Then it was back to the dressing room to hurry up and wait, which included Iguodala catching up on some back episodes of (ironically) NBC’s "Friday Night Lights."
Also on the show was Bill Hader, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne and, of course, Andre Iguodala.
