HORNETS SPLIT FIRST TWO
The Hornets split their first two preseason games in week one of the exhibition season (A 94-92 win vs. Houston and a 101-96 loss @ Indiana), averaging 95 points per game in the process. While slow first quarter starts plagued them in both of their early games (they were outscored 57-25) they won five of the other six quarters played and averaged 29 points per game in the fourth quarter of each contest.
‘STRONG SHOWING
Second-year center Hilton Armstrong has been the early pleasant surprise for the Bees, averaging 14 ppg/6 rpg/3bpg. He started the second game in Indiana as regular center Tyson Chandler rested a sore toe. He’s made nine of his first 15 shots and gone 10 x 13 from the free throw line as he continues to show all around improvement from his rookie season.
ROOKIE DEBUTS
Rookies Julian Wright and Adam Haluska have looked good early in the preseason. Wright’s all around game was discussed on draft night; but, through his first two preseason games he is backing up that talk with real numbers: 18 rebounds, 3 blocked shots, 5 assists, 2 steals. The 13th overall pick in the draft continues to work late after practice on his shooting (4 x 13 field goals after two games). Haluska, chosen 43rd overall in June played the preseason opener against Houston and showed why the Hornets are so high on his offensive potential. In 24 minutes the former University of Iowa standout poured in 12 points on 5 x 9 shooting an made both of his free throws.
WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
Now that the Hornets preseason schedule has begun and fans have a chance to reacquaint themselves with the team I thought it would be interesting to see where all of the former Hornets still in the NBA were playing/coaching heading into the 2007-2008 season.
